Stories for children
that teach them about the nature of God
Who is God?
Hi! My name is Topher. Really my name is Christopher, but my friends call
me Toph or Topher. I’m eight. I like to ride my bike and play T-ball,
soccer and basketball.
I have two sisters,
Megan and Bobbie. Megan is ten and plays the piano-all the time. She takes
lessons. Roberta is four. We call her Bobbie. She’s fun to tease. But
she drives me nuts...
Why Did Jesus Die?
We have a great dog named Shep. He plays in the yard with me. We go
fishing too, and he helps me pick up sticks. He’s one of my best
friends. I think Shep is the bravest dog in the whole town. He barks at
noises in the night and keeps us safe. Shep sleeps by my bed because he’s
mostly my dog. One day last summer, Megan came running home...
I Have a Question About Sin
Sin. What a negative subject! Our modern world uses euphemisms for sin.
The Bible, however, calls sin, sin. Man continually changes his standards
concerning sin, but God’s standards remain the same.
The Bible pictures
sin as primarily the violation of God’s law. The main work for sin in
the New Testament denotes missing the mark. Romans 3:23 refers to this as
falling short of the mark. The Bible also pictures sin as...
Who Goes to Heaven?
Bobbie and Toph were having a little talk. Bobbie kept saying,
"Good!" And Toph kept telling her, "Perfect! Bobbie, I’m
tellin’ you - perfect!
"Good ones! No
one is perfect. Mom said so."
"It is too the
perfect ones. And that one you’re holding isn’t one of them."
Toph knew he was right. They were sitting in the family room with their
baseball cards spread out on the floor.
Mom came into the
room. "What are you children arguing about?"
I Have a Question About Salvation?
It has to be this way - we must talk about salvation, but only after we
talk about sin. We have no need of salvation if we are not sinners. But
the Bible is clear; we are sinners. The Bible also clearly teaches that
salvation is always by grace through faith plus nothing (Genesis 15:6;
Ephesians 2:8,9).
The question often
arises: How soon can children discern...
For Whom Did Jesus Die?
Our family went on a vacation to Washington, D.C. We stayed a whole week
and got to see tons of places. We stayed in Maryland with Uncle Doug. That’s
not too far from Washington. Every day we went to places to learn about
our country. We each liked a different place the best. Megan liked the U.
S. Mint. We saw money being made...
How Does Jesus' Death Help Me?
Megan’s class at school was having big problems! Someone was stealing
other kids’ homework. A paper would be gone for two days and then appear
again - just like that. Megan’s teacher - Mrs. Corrine is her name -
said it had to stop. The class had to meet together one afternoon after
someone had stolen Megan’s math assignment.
"Children,
this must stop. We need to find out why someone is stealing...
What Does God Think About Jesus' Death?
"Mom, have you seen my new minicar?" Toph loses those things all
the time. Mom usually says the same thing. "No, Topher. The last time
I saw your cars, you were playing with them in the backyard. I haven’t
seen them today. Ask Megan."
Toph didn’t think
Megan would have it. But he asked her. "Megan, do you have my minicar?"
"No, Toph, I
don’t play with cars. You know that. Did Tommy take it home with...
How Do I Get the Free Gift?
The commercial said, "Free." But it seemed too good to be true.
Mom thought so too. "It does sound too good to be true, Toph. There
must be a catch."
Dad didn’t even
think we should go. "We Schmidts never take anything for nothing. We
work for what we get."
But I sure wanted a
new baseball glove! The commercial said...
I Sinned Again, Now What?
"Mom, can I have a sheet of paper?" Bobbie is always asking Mom
for paper to color on.
"Sure, Bobbie,
what are you drawing?"
"A special
picture for you and Dad. I can’t tell you."
Mom was working on
some crafts at the kitchen table, while Bobbie colored. A while later,
Bobbie asked, "Mom, can I have another...
