Day 6
Day
six brought few surprises. We have gotten into a daily
routine. We followed our usual pattern until lunch. We got up
around seven thirty, had a mission meeting at ten thirty, and had a short
amount of free time before lunch. Pastor Sawyer challenged us this
morning about surrender from Romans 12:1-2. We went out for lunch to a
the Nueva Villa China, a Chinese restaurant with a Spanish name.
That gives you a pretty good picture of the neighborhood that we are
ministering in. We arrived at 11:30 and didn't leave until one
forty five. The service was very slow. Pastor Dave even took
our orders to help speed things up.
That
put us slightly behind schedule. Two groups returned to the church
to do work while two groups went out with the NYSET team to do street
evangelism. The group working at church finish removing the tiles
from the gym ceiling and scraped chipping paint from the exterior of the
building. The groups doing street evangelism/preaching handed out hundreds
of Spanish and English tracts and held a meeting on a busy corner of
Corona Queens. A couple people prayed to receive Christ while were were
there on that corner! The NYSET team preached messages in front of
the same banner that Doug Lowery used to preach last night at the
war. After a message the group would assemble and sing songs while
the next speaker prepared to give his message using a belt clip sound
system. Tyler Rehn even stood up and gave his testimony to the
people passing by.
After
dinner we headed back to Flushing Meadows Park for another night of the
VBS and War. Starting at seven o'clock we ran a program similar to
last night. The teens at the war played big ball volleyball and tug
of war before the gospel message and snack. Pastor Dave preached a
good gospel message and eight responded to the invitation. The VBS
did a puppet show, songs, gospel message, snacks, face painting, and
animal balloons. Both events had a slightly higher attendance
tonight than last night. Our snack booth for the war
went through one hundred twenty five hot dogs and
a lot of Kool-Aid. Tomorrow should be very similar to today.
Please pray that God will help us as we share the gospel with others.
