Day 5
The day for the main part of our ministry has finally come. We
got up this morning around seven o'clock, ate breakfast, and headed for
the auditorium for a mission trip meeting. Pastor Ray challenged us
this morning to surrender and allow Christ to live through us. After
the mission trip meeting we took some time to clean and the guys got a
chance to do some laundry.
This
afternoon started with a good lunch prepared by Mrs. Metko and her little
helpers. After lunch we divided into our four groups. Three
groups went out canvassing and one group stayed back to do some work at
the church. We had to make more copies of our fliers since there
were so many people at the park yesterday. We handed out about
another four hundred fliers and five hundred church invitations or Spanish
tracts. Mr. Stauff our incredible bus driver dropped us off at Flushing
meadows park and we
focused on the park and the homes closest to the park. After most of
our fliers were gone, we went to the street corners closest to the
elevated train stations and handed tracts on the corners until about
3:30 when we headed back to the church to get ready for dinner and the
evening park ministries. It was a hot afternoon. Temperatures
soared above ninety and the sun was hot, but the good reception by the
people of New York made it well worth the sweat.
Right
at six o'clock we loaded the bus and headed to Flushing Meadows park with
our entire group, the NYSET Team, and a group from Faith Baptist.
Weeks of preparation paid off. Tyler Rehn did very well
running two games for the war, tube tug and spoke tackle. Registration
and snacks were well organized and the VBS team performed a
puppet show, bible lesson, games, balloon animals, face painting, and
snacks. Pastor Sawyer
was very excited to see how well organized and attended the events
were. Although the crowd started small it grew by 7:20 to 55 children
in the VBS and 35 teens in the War. Both programs went well
logistically, but even more importantly a good number of children and
teens responded the the gospel message. Three children prayed to
receive Christ at the VBS and eight teenagers responded to Doug Lowery's
Gospel invitation at the end of the war. It was exciting to see our
own teens leading children and other teens to Christ! Pray that
those who came tonight will come tomorrow and that the lord will bring us
more people to minister to.
