Day 4

Sunday is a busy day at First Baptist in Corona Queens.  We joined the church family for their regular services.  The first floor of the building hosts an English speaking service led by Pastor Sawyer.  Today Doug Lowery brought the morning message to a packed auditorium.  The second floor gymnasium hosts a Spanish speaking service lead by Pastor Martinez. However, we did not just sit and enjoy the services.  Our mission group provided two special songs and  Mrs. Sawyer asked us to do the morning Jr. church at the last minute.  A group came through with some adapted VBS material to give the kids a meaningful lesson. We are learning to be flexible

Each week Faith Baptist holds a morning service, lunch, and then an afternoon service.  We wanted to encourage the church by serving, so we decided that we would bring lunch and serve it to the church.  After the Spanish church dismissed in the upstairs gymnasium the whole church gathered for a Wisconsin lunch: brats, beans, potato salad, and cheese curds. Mrs. Metko and our teens made, served, and cleaned up the entire lunch. The people of the church seemed to really enjoy the flavors of Wisconsin.  One of the preacher boys that traveled preached for the afternoon service.

After the second service we had a little free time because both churches held quarterly business meetings. Some took the time to enjoy ice cream and soda from the Baez Grocery just across the street while others took the time to check in with the loved ones from home that they were missing.  At a short mission meeting we decided that the most Godly thing we could do was sleep. A small group of exceptionally energetic girls did some laundry across the street and handed out flyers as they waited for their clothes.

We finally got to go canvassing after dinner.  We split into four groups and covered two streets and the area of the park where we are doing our work.  We found as we headed out to canvas that the park was hosting a soccer tournament today and a lot of people were leaving the park as we were headed toward it.  Each of us got the chance to hand out invitations to the VBS/War and also church brochures with a gospel message. Collectively we handed out over 1000 invitations and 400 church brochures.  Please pray that God will use these bring people to salvation.  After a missions meeting we turned in to rest up for the first day of VBS/War.
