Day 2

We are so thankful for sleep. This morning we got going a little later than usual. Our first scheduled event was breakfast at nine o'clock. The morning mail brought two important packages. The first was a replacement for our internet connection card and the second was a box of new church brochures. Before the trip Pastor Dave re-worked Bay City's new brochure for Faith Baptist in Queens and we purchased 5000 to use for canvassing and to leave for the church. Pastor Sawyer was very excited to see these new brochures.

After a little bit of free time, we had a mission trip meeting at ten forty-five.  Doug Lowery introduced himself to the group and gave us some instructions for traveling tomorrow as we sightsee.  Mr. Stauff challenged us with a message about how important things in our lives often require us to make costly sacrifices. Pastor Dave had each of us open an envelope labeled "do not open" that he had taped in the back of each of our mission trip manuals. Each envelope contained a dollar. He told us to mark that bill and keep it in our wallets but not to spend it. We are all curious to see what he has planned.

Today's weather has been cold (60 degrees isn't that cold, but it is summer) and rainy.  We woke up to rain, and it is still raining. Originally canvassing was the plan, but the rain hindered us, so after lunch we started some of the cleaning and maintenance projects that Pastor Sawyer told us we could help with. We cleaned a LOT today. We washed twenty eight windows inside and out and scrubbed two sets of stairs, scraping gum as we went. Some cleaned bathrooms while others gutted the entire church kitchen and made it sparkling clean. Our last group worked outside in the rain cleaning the trash area and kitchen parts with a hose, pressure washer, and their hands.

The poor weather kept us from doing our evening ministry as well, so we joined some of the teens at Faith Baptist for a youth activity from seven until ten o'clock. At the beginning of the meeting we gave each of the teens one of our mission trip bracelets with our theme, "The Glory of God: nothing else matters."  Together, both youth groups played a variation of family feud (the girls won), heard a good message on patience, and went up stairs for a mission trip meeting. Tomorrow is our sight seeing day, so pray for our safety as we travel on the subway into Manhattan. We leave at seven am. We love you and miss you!
