Getting settled What a long day! We arrived at Faith Baptist Church in Queens at about 12:40 EDT, making our total trip time 18 hours, 30 minutes. Whew! It's hard to express
our excitement as we got our first look at the Manhattan skyline. Though a
fog shrouded the buildings, it was exciting to be in New York -- for
many of us because it was our first time here, and for all of us because
the months of planning Under the direction of Evangelist Doug Lowery we unloaded our belongings from the bus and began preparations for bed. Most of us were asleep by 2 a.m. or so. The guys are staying in the third-floor gym in the church. The girls are stowed away in four Sunday school rooms in the basement. We got up around 8:30 for the beginning of our first day in New York. After getting down the
logistics of showe Our first impressions of New York: It's bigger than Green Bay. It's urban America, and I think many in our group were surprised at what the big city is like. It isn't Green Bay, that's for sure. It isn't even Milwaukee. It's difficult to describe our impressions as we wound through the streets of Queens toward our home for the next nine days.
Tonight we're helping with a youth rally here at the church -- it's one of three activities going on in this busy church. (All three floors of the building are in use for different purposes!) Tomorrow we'll be heading to Manhattan for some sightseeing opportunities. Please pray for us as we travel by subway into the city.
