Thursday, July 12th Summary
Posted Thursday at 11:56 p.m. France time (4:56 p.m. central time)

Our time in France is drawing to a close.

We woke up Thursday a little bleary-eyed after a long day on Wednesday and a short sleep. But we woke up with a willing spirit, ready to serve God.

Before starting the work, though, we took a morning trip to Versailles, just outside of Paris. The castle was built in the early 1700s by King Louis XIV. It was a tremendous building, filled with incredible works of art, many worth millions of dollars apiece. But again, it was a symbol of the effort man can put into making himself seem bigger. We can’t deny that this was an impressive sight to see, but it’s also a reminder that men should not spend their lives glorifying themselves. Instead, their focus should be on God.

It was with this spirit that we dived into helping Mr. and Mrs. Dodeler.

As you’ll recall, on Tuesday we spent much of the day painting, cleaning and generally helping out around the Bible Institute run by Mr. Dodeler. That work continued on Thursday, and expanded to his church in Mantes la Jolie. It was there that Jon Sorensen and Nathan Jensen hung wallpaper. James Meighen went along and helped clean around the church. Tim Zepnick was a Jack-of-all-trades, splitting his time between the church in Mantes and the Bible Institute in Limay.

In Limay, the painting continued. It was a chance for us to complete a task begun earlier in the week. By the end of the day, we had completed painting trim around the stairwell and finished painting on the main floor of the institute.

It is amazing how quickly the time passes when we’re serving God. Work that normally would be difficult, becomes a joy to do. By the end of the day, we all had a sense that we had accomplished something big.

We still have one-half day left in France, but we all have a small feeling of sadness. We’ve gotten to know Mr. and Mrs. Dodeler very well over the last week. They are wonderful people who truly have a heart for God. They truly are doing God’s work here.

Tomorrow we leave France and head back to America. Our flight is scheduled to leave at 2:50 p.m. Paris time, or sometime early in the morning your time. We’re due back in Chicago about 5 p.m. – only a two-hour flight, great (of course we all know better, don’t we?).

Pray for our safety as we travel, and pray that God will continue to bless this ministry here in Limay, France.

We continue to miss you, and we love you all. (Written by Steve Bruss, 7/12/01)

One of the pictures you see here is of our final team meeting where we shared what God had taught us on this trip. It was a special time for all of us. Wish you could have been a part of it.
