INTERVIEWER: Can you please give me a short life history so we can get to know you a little better? Maybe weave in how you ended up in the ministry.

PASTOR BROWN: I was born in Pontiac, Michigan, lived in Clarkston, and was saved and baptized under the ministry of Dr. Tom Malone, Sr. at Emmanuel Baptist Church. I was called to preach while a pre-med student at Albion College. I then went on to Bob Jones University where I received a BA in Bible in 1979 and an MA in Pastoral Studies in 1991.

My first ministry was at Grace Baptist Church and Christian Academy in Starr, SC, where I served as youth pastor for 2 years and senior pastor for 11 years. I also was a teacher, then principal, then administrator of the Christian school. When the school closed, I began teaching at Oakwood Christian School in 1983.

In 1992, the Lord led me to leave Grace Baptist to become the Elementary Principal at Oakwood, which I did for 8 years.

After spending 2 years as the senior pastor of Fairview Baptist Church in Pickens, SC, I returned to Oakwood as an assistant pastor, then administrative pastor, for a total of 8 years.

In June of 2009, I was called to Bay City Baptist Church to serve as the senior pastor.

I married the lovely Debra Muncie Brown, my college sweetheart. She also taught 5th grade, 6th grade, music and piano at Oakwood for over 20 years. We have one son, Brandon, who is married to Sarah Ross Brown. They currently reside in Okinawa, Japan, where Brandon serves as a USMC helicopter pilot, and Sarah has just completed her degree in Business.

INTERVIEWER: What’s the best part of your role here? What gets you out of bed in the morning?

PASTOR BROWN: My alarm clock gets me up, a good cup of coffee wakes me up, but being able to minister to people through the Word of God keeps me up and going each day!

INTERVIEWER: Please tell me a little about your family.

PASTOR BROWN: I married the lovely Debra Muncie Brown, my college sweetheart. She has taught in both the elementary and secondary level classroom in Christian schools, but her passion has been music and piano. We have one son, Brandon, who is married to Sarah Ross Brown. They currently reside in Okinawa, Japan, where Brandon serves as a USMC helicopter pilot, and Sarah has just completed her degree in Business.

INTERVIEWER: When you get away from the office what do you like to do...hobbies, sports, whatever? No fact is too small.

PASTOR BROWN: I like just about any sport and outdoor activity. We have owned horses in the past. I play golf, tennis, softball, and volleyball, and I like to run and target shoot. I also enjoy working in the yard.

INTERVIEWER: Let’s talk food. OK, free dinner tonight at any restaurant...where would you go and why?

PASTOR BROWN: A great steak rules supreme, but I also enjoy really good seafood. The place doesn’t matter as long as the food is tasty–and you did mention free, right?!

INTERVIEWER: Let’s talk vacations. So, you could go anywhere on the earth right now. Where would that be? You don’t have to say Jerusalem or anything spiritual like that.

PASTOR BROWN: Debbie and I have been talking about an Alaskan cruise, and I would also like to take a tour of Europe, especially the old castles and the ruins of Paul’s journeys.

INTERVIEWER: Of course I have to ask the obligatory “favorite color question.” Favorite color?

PASTOR BROWN: Maize and Blue!!! Enough said. If you don’t know why, you don’t deserve to know, but you can come and visit the Man Cave in our basement anyway and find out.

INTERVIEWER: What would you say is the best invention in the last 50 years?

PASTOR BROWN: The Keurig Coffee Maker–fresh brewed coffee in under a minute! Oh, and probably the computer is a close second.

INTERVIEWER: What else do you want people to know about you?

PASTOR BROWN: I am married to the most wonderful girl in the world! I thank her daily for getting me every job I have ever had.

INTERVIEWER: Is there anything interesting that people might be surprised to know about you?

PASTOR BROWN: Believe it or not, I set our high school cross country record (16:19), and ran the mile in 4:30. I am a bit slower now!ch46sbbsarahforweb

INTERVIEWER: Thank you for your time today Pastor Brown.

PASTOR BROWN: I hope that my responses didn't scare you away, but make you realize that God can use anybody who is willing.
